Two days after firing FBI Director James Comey, President Donald Trump issued a thinly veiled threat on Twitter, suggesting there could be recordings of the conversation the two had over dinner.

The comment was one of several messages the president shared on Twitter on Friday morning, as his administration continues to deal with the political fallout over the decision to remove Comey from his role at the FBI amid an ongoing investigation of possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election.

Trump has repeatedly denied that his campaign worked with the Russians, who experts claim interfered in the election to help Trump at the expense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

On Thursday, Trump appeared to make matters worse by contradicting his own White House on the reasons he decided to let Comey go.

Speaking to NBC’s Lester Holt, Trump said he planned on firing Comey all-along, despite the fact multiple surrogates from the White House, including Vice President Mike Pence, claimed the firing came in response to recommendations made by top Justice Department officials.

On Friday morning, Trump jumped on Twitter to defend his surrogates, noting that it’s not possible for them to be accurate, given all the fast-moving parts at the White House.

Trump also suggested he may do away with press briefings entirely, which have taken place since the presidency of Woodrow Wilson.
