Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-year-old child who drowned in a South Jersey pool over the weekend.

Officers were called to a home on South Pitney Road in Galloway Township, Atlantic County, at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a missing child, police said.

Investigators found the toddler, whose name was not released, in a pool at a nearby home a short time later, officials said.

The child was taken to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus and died at the hospital.

Further information about the toddler or the circumstances of the drowning wasn’t available. Police are continuing to investigate.

In another water-related tragedy involving a toddler over the weekend, a 3-year-old boy was in critical condition after falling into the Schuylkill River near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge.
