Fifteen weeks ago, a Philadelphia jury said it could not decide if Reginald Green was the man who raped and brutally beat a woman in a remote area of SEPTA’s Jefferson Station.

On Monday, the 29-year-old Green aborted his retrial on the charges, pleading guilty to attempted rape, aggravated assault and robbery in the Feb. 9, 2015 attack on a 27-year-old woman.

Reginald Green pleaded guilty Monday to attempted rape, robbery and aggravated assault of a woman in the track area of Jefferson Station in 2015.

Green’s change-of-mind followed a conference with his lawyer Joel Krantz on what was to have been the first day of his retrial.

Common Pleas Court Judge Charles A. Ehrlich accepted Green’s guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for Aug. 28.

Green’s guilty plea was not part of an agreement with the District Attorney’s Office and Ehrlich told Green he faces up to 60 years in prison.

Before sentencing, Green, of Southwest Philadelphia, will be evaluated by Pennsylvania’s sexual offender assessment board to determine if he should be classified as a sexually violent predator. That ruling will govern Green’s reporting and living restrictions when he is released from prison.

According to Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Fischer, Green struck up a conversation with the woman, who asked directions to the Market-Frankford Subway-Elevated Line. The Inquirer and Daily News do not identify sex assault victims without their consent.

Instead, Fischer continued, at 1 p.m., Green led the woman into the regional rail’s Jefferson Station, down to the platform between Tracks 1 and 2 and to a secluded area behind an elevator.

There he punched and kicked the victim and tried to rape her before fleeing. The victim sustained multiple cuts on her face and head and was unconscious for hours after she was taken to the hospital for treatment, Fischer said.

Fischer said Green gave a statement to police admitting sexual contact with the victim and stealing her cellphone.
