Police say a suspect has been charged with intentionally setting three fires in Center City and Queen Village, including one behind Famous 4th Street Deli.

Juan Barkley, 59, of Center City, was arrested on charges of arson, risking catastrophe, criminal mischief and other offenses, Philadelphia police said Saturday.

The string of blazes began Jan. 17, when a 5:45 a.m. fire on the 800 block of Ranstead Street damaged an overhead facade.

Then, at about 4 a.m. on Jan. 27, a blaze damaged a parked vehicle on the 700 block of South Fifth Street.

And on Feb. 12, a fire was set in the rear of the deli on the 700 block of South 4th Street. That fire damaged a brick wall.

All three of the fires were ruled arsons, police said.

The city’s arson task force developed Barkley as a suspect and arrested him Friday, authorities said. Police did not say how Barkley was linked to the crimes or say whether a motive was known.
