On March 29, the Sixers My Brother’s Keeper Mentoring Art Contest presented by PECO culminated with an awards ceremony and on court recognition of the 17 young literary and visual winners. The Sixers very own Tom McGinnis emceed the event and was joined by Mike Innocenzo, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of PECO, Sheila Hess, the City Representative for the City of Philadelphia, and Jack Drummond, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement.

The Art Contest is an opportunity for our future leaders to use art as their vehicle for expressing the importance of mentorship to them.  Art Contest judge Robert Covington met and spoke with the winners, congratulating them on their success, and impressing upon them the importance that mentors have had to him throughout his life and career.  Robert encouraged the students to follow their dreams and pursuits, and always push for greatness.

The winners were also recognized on court during halftime proudly unveiling their extraordinary artwork in hand.   None of this would have been possible without the tremendous support and partnership of presenting sponsor, PECO, along with the School District of Philadelphia, My Brother Keeper’s Philadelphia, Office of Arts Culture and the Creative Economy, Philadelphia Youth Commission and the Mentoring Partnership and Resource Center.  An additional thank you to our panel of judges including Robert Covington, Mike Innocenzo, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of PECO, Dr. Nina Ahmad, Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia, Jane Golden, Executive Director and Founder of Mural Arts Philadelphia and Willis Humphrey, Staff Artist, Mural Arts Philadelphia. And a special thank you to Tu Huynh and Stephanie Fuentes from the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy for your tremendous help and support.
