Fans heading to the NFL Draft and the NFL Draft Experience festivities on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway should expect a security perimeter similar to other major Parkway events and know which items to avoid bringing to the event.

Here’s what you need to know about security for the draft:

A secure perimeter will surround the event, bordering the stage in front of the Art Museum and the fan festival on the Parkway. Other roads in the area will be closed or designated as local access only, though the traffic and security restrictions will be far less invasive than the large no-vehicle “traffic box” that accompanied Pope Francis’ visit in 2015.

Tickets are required to enter the Draft Theater.

No passes are needed for the Draft Experience or Selection Square inside the Franklin Institute. However, Draft Experience attendees will need to have downloaded the NFL’s Fan Mobile Pass for full access to activities at the festival.

Bags and purses must be no larger than 16 inches x 14 inches x 12 inches and will be subject to inspection.

Prohibited items include:

  • All firearms and other weapons, including pepper spray.
  • Pets (other than service animals).
  • Outside food or drinks.
  • Bottles, cans, liquid containers or coolers (except for fans with medical needs).
  • Video recorders (except for credentialed media).
  • Drones or other unmanned aerial vehicles.
  • Hoverboards and similar devices.
  • Missile-like objects.
  • Laser pointers.
  • Artificial noisemakers.
  • Poles or sticks, including selfie sticks.
  • Objects that may obstruct others’ views, including umbrellas more than 4 feet in diameter.
  • Folding chairs.
  • Bikes.
  • Promotional items (without consent of NFL).

Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not permitted and lighters are banned.

More information about draft security is expected to be available closer to the event. Check back for updates.
