Police on Wednesday were seeking the public’s help in identifying the assailant or assailants who brutally beat a 33-year-old South Philadelphia woman, who died 10 days later at a hospital.

Lauren Aukett was found unconscious with head trauma about 6:30 a.m. April 5 outside South Philadelphia High School on the 2100 block of South Broad Street.

FOX 29 reported that she was found outside the high school by school police.

Medics rushed her to Jefferson University Hospital, where she remained unconscious and on life support. She was pronounced dead Saturday.

According to Philadelphia Magazine, Aukett’s family said she was most recently homeless and was apparently sleeping outside of the school when she was attacked. Before becoming homeless, she had married and had three children, ages 6 to 14, the magazine reported. Her family told Philly Mag that after learning about Aukett’s bleak prognosis, she was taken off life support.

Police said the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of her death to be blunt-force trauma and ruled her death a homicide. Police said the motive behind the assault was believed to be an argument, but did not elaborate. They reported no arrest.

As with all homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information about Aukett’s death should contact the homicide unit at 215-686-3334.
