A 35-year-old Atco motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, police and prosecutors said Saturday.

On April 30 at 11:30 a.m., Dana Harper was driving south on the Black Horse Pike near Fox Croft Apartments when she hit Charles Beehler, 55, of Gloucester Township, according to Camden County prosecutors and Gloucester Township police.

Several 911 callers told police that Harper was driving a red Dodge Durango “in an erratic manner,” according to a statement from prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Gloucester Police Chief Harry Earle.

Police said Harper drove off the road and hit Beehler, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Harper provided a blood sample that revealed “various narcotic substances” in her system, Colalillo’s office said.

She has been arrested and remanded to the Camden County jail, and is awaiting a detention hearing, officials said.
