Runners will trek 142 miles from Philly to DC to honor fallen officers

A group of runners will head off on Friday to complete a 142-mile trek to Washington,  D.C., in honor fallen police officers.

The 21-year-old Law Enforcement Memorial Run is a three-day event beginning in Philadelphia and ending in the nation’s capitol. It honors fallen officers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia and includes hundreds of participants from as far away as Canada.





The opening ceremonies will be held at the Philadelphia Navy Yard starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Marine Parade Grounds. Runners will depart at 9:15 a.m. run north on Broad Street to Route 291, cross over the Platt Bridge through Tinicum Township. From there they will head into Chester along Route 13 before crossing into Delaware.

The group will arrive in Washington on Sunday, which is also the start of National Police Week.
