A loose horse briefly blocked roadways, commanded police attention and caught commuters off-guard in Philadelphia Friday morning.

Here’s a rundown of the unusual morning for all involved:

The horse was sighted in the Fishtown area shortly after 7 a.m., after apparently running on Kelly Drive and Spring Garden Street.

The animal, believed to have gotten loose from a stable in Fairmount Park, according to CBS3, was wandering on Girard Avenue, which was temporarily closed near Richmond  Street as police tried to corral the horse.

Both police and TV news anchors appeared puzzled by the horse’s appearance in the neighborhood. Officers were left standing, calmly but somewhat awkwardly, with the animal outside their cruisers as they awaited a trailer to transport it.

Police ultimately got the horse safely into a trailer. There were no injuries or major incidents due to its escape.

It was determined that the horse —a mare named Proud Queen — had escaped from the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club in Strawberry Mansion when a hostler opened her stable door to clean her stall. She was returned safe and sound.
