Recap:

The Sixers returned home from a season-long, five-game road trip weary, but not defeated. Injuries limited Brett Brown to “seven and a half” players on Wednesday night against the visiting Hawks, but Philadelphia would “continue to fight with who we have,” said the coach pre-game.

Brown is a man of his word—his team played with its trademark unselfishness (30 assists on 36 field goals) and toughness, even as the game got chippy late in the 3rd quarter—but they couldn’t overcome a 41-percent shooting night as Atlanta pulled out the 99-92 victory.

Justin Anderson’s thunderous jam (below) cut the deficit to 83-81 on with 8:20 left in the 4th, but the Hawks were just too much to handle on this night; Dwight Howard established himself in the paint with 22 points and 20 rebounds, opening up the perimeter for his teammates to shoot 9 for 18 from downtown.

Richaun Holmes put forth another strong effort against the former All-Star, setting a new career high with 25 points to go with eight boards. Ersan Ilyasova (14 points) proved to be a devastating complement to Howard in his return to Philly.

It’s right back out on the road for a two-gamer against Eastern Conference heavyweights in Cleveland (Friday) and Toronto (Sunday). With Sergio Rodriguez (hamstring) likely out and Jahlil Okafor and Robert Covington both uncertain with knee soreness, the final multi-game trip of the year provides one last opportunity for the rest of the squad to test itself away from The Center.
