A teenager can be seen on video hanging onto a hood of a car after a driver tried to run him over in Ocean County, N.J., police said.

About 12:50 p.m. Friday, a 23-year-old man driving a blue Toyota Camry struck a parked vehicle in the lot of Piner Elementary School on East County Line Road in Lakewood, then tried to flee, police said.

That’s when a 19-year-old man, who saw what happened, tried to stop him. The driver, identified as Terick DeBose, of Toms River, briefly stopped, but then stepped on his accelerator and drove directly toward the teen, police said.

The teen lunged forward so he wouldn’t be run over and was able to grab onto the hood of the car, police said. (See video, released by police.)

DeBose continued driving at an estimated 40 mph or more, police said, with the teen still holding on, but pulled over about a quarter-mile down the road to let him off.

Though DeBose drove on, police caught up to him. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident and various motor-vehicle summonses, police said.

The victim, police said, suffered a minor injury to his knee.
