It is every drivers worst nightmare — a spider drops down from the car roof into your lap for a surprise visit.

On Friday, an unidentified man in Ephrata Township was so startled when he thought he saw a spider in his lap, he lost control of his car and hit a utility pole, WGAL reported.

He was not injured. No word on the spider’s condition.

From the posts on Twitter, the man’s reaction was completely understandable.

If the image of a spider surprising you while your are driving doesn’t keep you up at night, perhapslast month’s news from the Washington Post that there are enough spiders on the planet to eat every human in one year will do the trick.

“There’s a good chance at least one spider is staring at you right now, sizing you up from a darkened corner of the room, eight eyes glistening in the shadows,” the Post reported.
