Police on Wednesday night were questioning the father of a 9-month-old boy who was accidentally punctured by a hypodermic needle while they were both in bed in the city’s Manayunk section.

Medics responded to a 911 call around 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Green Lane and transported the baby to Chestnut Hill Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

The father was being question by detectives with the Special Victims Unit and the Department of Human Services had been notified, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The baby was in bed and rolled over and was punctured in his lower leg, Small said.

Police wanted to find out what, if anything, was in the needle, whether it was a prescribed medicine or an illegal drug, Small said.
