A 27-year-old Philadelphia man believed pulled underwater by the current was found dead Tuesday afternoon in the Delaware River in Bucks County more than an hour after he was reported missing.

According to Solebury Township police, authorities were dispatched to the river near Washington Crossing Park, off the 1600 block of River Road, around 1:15 p.m. to assist with a swimmer “in distress.”

Nearly 90 minutes later, divers from the Point Pleasant Fire Company recovered the body from the water. The man was pronounced dead by the Bucks County Coroner’s Office, police said in a statement on Facebook. His name was not revealed. Police did not answer a call for comment Tuesday afternoon.

The search was a joint effort among Solebury police, state park rangers from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and marine and dive rescue units from townships across the county.
