Pa. man caused $50K damage to house trying to scare opossum

A Lancaster County man accidentally set fire to his house trying to scare away opossums and bees.


The blaze Wednesday caused $50,000 in damage to the row home, It started began after the resident used leaves and charcoal lighter to start a fire in an effort to scare the creatures away, LancasterOnline reported.





“Unfortunately for him the exterior of the residence was made of wood, and the fire got out of control and spread to the residence,” Lt. Carl Everhart, a fire marshal, told the news outlet.

A firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury putting out the fire and needed to be treated at a local hospital.

The house was condemned and the man, his wife and child were displaced.

No word on the opossums or bees.
