A New Jersey man on vacation in Florida with his wife and son was struck by a hit-and-run driver and killed just seconds after posing for a photo by a “Welcome to Ft. Lauderdale Beach” sign.

Miguel Soler, 58, of Carteret, was opening the door to his car Saturday about 6:34 p.m. when a car hit him. The family was on their way to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and decided to stop for photos, the Sun Sentinel reported

A SUV suspected in the crash was found a short time later about 10 blocks away, the story reported.

Soler was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

“He was driving, he saw the boats and said, ‘I would like to have a picture with boats in the back,’ ” Vivian Soler, his wife, told the paper.

Their 13-year-old son, also named Miguel, was in the car when his father was struck and is in shock, Vivian Soler said.

Miguel Soler was due to start a new job with UPS at the Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday, she told the paper.
