Nobody in Pennsylvania or New Jersey won the $758.7 million Powerball on Wednesday night — sorry. But in Pennsylvania, a $2 million winning ticket was sold at the Fresh & Quick store in Catawissa, Columbia County. Catawissa has a population of around 1,500, so maybe the whole town chipped in.
Four $1 million winning tickets were sold in Pennsylvania: a 7-Eleven in Warminster, Weis Markets in Allentown, Darrenkamp’s Market in Mount Joy, and a Marathon store across the state in Tarentum.
According to palottery.com, more than 485,000 players in Pennsylvania won a total $13 million. None of the winners have come forward yet as they figure out how to avoid certain relatives and friends.
New Jersey also had two $1 million winning tickets. They were sold at L&K Petroleums in Dorchester and the W&R Mini Market & Deli in Paterson.
“This amazing Powerball run was not only great fun for players, it produced tremendous new funding – more than $36 million – for programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians,” said Lottery executive director Drew Svitko. “Congratulations to our many winners, and a heartfelt thank-you to our players and retailers.”
The winning Powerball ticket was sold in Chicopee, Mass. It matched the five white balls drawn, 06-07-16-23-26, and the red Powerball, 04. The winner can choose the final annuity value of $758.7 million or a cash prize of $480.5 million.
The winner was identified Thursday afternoon as Mavis Wanczyk, a 53-year-old hospital worker. She has already given a news conference and quit her job. As one does after winning $758 million.
The store that sold the ticket has said it will give its $50,000 prize to charity, according to a Massachusetts lottery official.
