A man was shot to death with an assault rifle at a housing project in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

Just after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, police and medics were called to the 5600 block of Gibson Drive and found the victim face down on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his head and torso, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The man, described as possibly in his late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. He has not been identified.

Police found multiple shell casings for assault-rifle rounds about 25 to 30 feet away in the grass in the Bartram Village complex.
