So many creatures have startled drivers in recent weeks that you might think there is a mass conspiracy in the animal kingdom to create havoc on area roads.

Turkeys, spiders, squirrels and ducks have all been blamed for crashes. And now, a opossum joins the list.

On Thursday, Kimberly Northuop, 57, of Bangor, Northampton County, told police she hit the brakes to avoid a large opossum crossing in front of her Ford pickup on Route 57 in Mansfield Township, LehighValleyLive reported.

Unfortunately the driver behind her couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended Northuop. That driver and a passenger were transported to  St. Luke’s Hospital in Phillipsburg with minor injuries, according to the news outlet.

As it turns out, hitting an opossum is rather common and the source of some guilt.
