A Philadelphia Orpans’ Court hearing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday to consider whether PMC Properties should be allowed to remove, preserve, and rebury bodies uncovered during residential construction at 218 Arch St., site of the old burial ground for the First Baptist Church.

Human remains began turning up during excavation at the site in February. At that time, PMC eventually halted construction and allowed a team of volunteer archaeologists to remove what turn out to be more than 100 bodies missed when the cemetery was ostensibly removed in 1860 to Mount Moriah Cemetery in Southwest Philadelphia.

More bodies continued to turn up and the city informally asked PMC to address the issue in June. The company hired an archaeologist to monitor the site. More human remains have since reportedly turned up since then.
