David “DJ” Creato, the South Jersey man accused of killing his 3-year-old son, has pleaded guilty on manslaughter charges in the boy’s death weeks before the case was set to be retried, a high ranking law enforcement source tells NBC10.
Prosecutors alleged Creato, 24, murdered his son, Brendan, because the father was fearful that his 17-year-old girlfriend would leave him.
The boy’s body was discovered in a wooded area of Haddon Township, New Jersey in 2015. DJ Creato said the boy wandered away from home and maintained that a stranger killed his son.
A high-level law enforcement source said Wednesday that DJ Creato pleaded to an aggravated manslaughter charge. He will serve 10 years in a state prison.
In April, DJ Creato was tried on murder and child endangerment charges. The case ended in a hung jury with prosecutors vowing to retry the man. The new trial was scheduled for Sept. 11.
