Cops probe noose in Center City

Authorities are investigating after a hangman’s noose was found in a tree in the Rittenhouse area of Center City on Friday morning.

The tree is at 18th and Lombard Streets, a few blocks from Rittenhouse Square, Billy Penn reported.

A police spokesman had no immediate information about the reported noose. A Billy Penn photograph showed officers at the scene. Police were not aware of the noose when the news outlet first asked about the situation, the report said.

The incident comes after a New York Times report detailed a number of noose incidents that have been reported nationwide in recent weeks, including one at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia.
