Gunfire in two sections of the city Tuesday left one woman dead and a second critically wounded.

About 1:10 p.m., a 25-year-old woman was fatally shot on the 1200 block of Sanger Street in Frankford, police said. The woman, whose name was not released, was shot several times and was taken by police to Einstein Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:53 p.m.

Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl said the shooting appeared to have resulted from a domestic dispute. He declined to elaborate.

Earlier in the day, a 42-year-old woman was critically wounded about 7:30 a.m. when she was shot by a stray bullet while driving a car in Logan, police said.

The bullet flew through the windshield of her Honda and struck her in the face as she drove west on Rockland Street near 11th, police said. She also was taken to Einstein.

“It’s just another tragic case of senseless violence,” Northwest Detectives Capt. Malachi Jones said at an afternoon news conference. “Here you have a woman on her way to work, first thing in the morning, and this unfortunate incident happens. It’s very alarming, to say the least.”

Police said the shooter, who was still at large and whom the woman did not know, was a shirtless man wearing blue sweatpants who was firing a weapon on nearby Marvine Street. Preliminary information indicated he was initially on foot, then fled in a gold Lincoln Town Car.

Jones said a man seen in a store surveillance video running across the intersection of 11th and Rockland Streets may have been the intended target. He was carrying a backpack and wore a black-and-white hat, black-and-white sneakers, and blue jeans. Police said they did not know what prompted the shooting.

Tipsters should call Northwest Detectives at 215-686-3353.

The two women were shot less than a week after three women were slain in the city last Wednesday.

Lylliana Mendoza, 35, and her stepdaughter Aslemarie Torres, 19, were fatally shot on the 3000 block of Lawrence Street in Fairhill while sitting in a red pickup truck. They were pronounced dead there at 12:19 a.m.

Then, shortly after 7 a.m., Rosalind Wicks, 57, was stabbed four times in the neck and also assaulted with a hammer in her home on the 5500 block of North Hill Creek Drive in Crescentville. She was pronounced dead there at 7:38 a.m. Wicks’ daughter was taken to Einstein Medical Center for a head injury received in a struggle with the attacker, police have said.

No arrests have been reported in any of the cases.
