A driver was killed and her passenger was injured Monday when the SUV they were in rear-ended a box truck in Delaware County.

According to a police, the collision occurred about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Chester Road and Providence Road in Nether Providence Township.

The driver of the box truck, which was carrying medical waste, was stopped at a red turn light, said Nether Providence Police Chief David Splain.

The 34-year-old woman driving a Honda CR-V appeared to be proceeding straight in the northbound lane of Chester Road and possibly drifted into the back of the truck, Splain said. The truck driver was not hurt.

The passenger was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center and listed in stable condition, said Splain. The accident is still under investigation, he said.
